Karen Landrigan debuts at the Irving Arts Center

May 6, 2022/ - The Irving Arts Center is an impressive ten acre facility in the heart of Dallas/ Fort Worth. It features two fully equipped theaters; five galleries; meeting rooms, classrooms, reception and rehearsal facilities and a verdant sculpture garden.

To be asked to present one's work at the Irving Arts Center is a significant artistic accomplishment. A manifest of an artist's dream come true.

Houston based artist Karen Landrigan has enjoyed world wide recognition over the past seven years and now her painting ‘Living’ has been selected by jury to be part of the Irving's annual Texas & Neighbors Regional Art Exhibition. More than 880 images were submitted and only 85 chosen. 

“Living' is Graham Johnston,” Landrigan said, “he was a dear friend and an Olympic swimmer. He died in 2019, a wonderful man and this is my tribute to him. In a way he is still competing.”

Landrigan has been featured in several art competitions over the past seven years. She is known for her powerful and emotional acrylic paintings, her whimsical sketches and her handmade Sterling jewellery.

The Texas and Neighbors Regional Art Exhibition can be seen at the main gallery in the Irving Arts Center, Texas from May 14 to June 11, 2022.

"Living" lives On!

March 1, 2021/ - Houston based artist Karen Landrigan has been selected by jury to feature her painting titled 'Living' in an upcoming online art show.  The Flagler County Art League in Florida will feature artists from around the world in their virtual show, “Faces and Figures.” 

The juror for the exhibition, Anna Miller, wrote “It was the hardest yet for me to judge this particular show. The mere quantity of very impressive work was overwhelming. I am in awe of the artists participating in this exhibition. The reflection and documentation of human emotions and existence had shown through so many different forms and with such great technical skill. 19 awards are not nearly enough to reward each deserving artist. However, I tried to concentrate on the inner beauty of humanity, everlasting beyond these challenging times.”

Landrigan has been featured in several online art competitions over the past three years and she continues to paint and design her exclusive jewelry collections despite the difficulties brought on by a pandemic.

"This painting is Graham Johnston," Landrigan said, "my dear friend and an Olympic swimmer. He died recently, a wonderful man and this is my tribute to him."

The show opens online February 28 2021 and will run until May 30th 2021.

Artist Houston Artist Doubles Up

July 15, 2020/ - Canadian Artist and longtime Houston resident, Karen Landrigan received some very good news. Two of her paintings, ‘Open’ and ‘Living’ have been selected for the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA) 2020 Elected Members' Juried Exhibition. 

The Society of Canadian Artists is committed to strengthening its national presence in Canada by promoting excellence in traditional forms of artistic expression, and by encouraging acceptance and growth of contemporary and experimental forms of visual art.

The exhibition features approximately one hundred individual paintings from a very select group of artists. The successful paintings were selected by jury and to have two pieces in this online exhibition is a significant accomplishment.

Landrigan is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists. She was admitted by jury in 2016.

“I guess I’m not a flash in the pan”, Landrigan said with a smile. “It is such a good feeling to be recognized. I am very grateful and it shows that I have a strong body of work.” 

Landrigan’s painting “Living” was inspired by the death of a lifelong friend.

“I think Graham is still competing”, Landrigan said, “I am sure he is challenging all his friends in the clouds. He was an Olympic swimmer and a gold medal friend.”

Landrigan was born in Newfoundland Canada and has lived in Houston, Texas for seventeen years.

“I love Houston”, Landrigan said, “Like most ex-pats I love the warmth of Texas. Both the temperature and the people.”

Local artist has three paintings chosen in world-wide competition

March 16, 2020/ - Houston artist Karen Landrigan is once again being offered high praise and professional recognition by the international art community. Three of her paintings titled, Pause, Swimming and Rising have been selected by jury to be included in the Society of Canadian Artists 2020 International Online Exhibition. Landrigan was delighted.

“You spend so many hours alone in the studio, so when I get chosen or selected for something and you realize that critics like your work, it can be overwhelming. In a good way,” Landrigan said.

Landrigan started painting full time only five years ago. Up until then she was very active in graphic design, logo development for several prominent companies, and jewelry design. To have three paintings selected in a juried competition is almost unheard of.

“Certain events beyond my control changed the trajectory of life,” Landrigan said, “ Painting found me is the way I look at it. I am so fortunate to be able to do this full time.

Landrigan was born and raised in Newfoundland, Canada. She settled years ago in Houston with her husband, a professional engineer and now calls the Texas city her home.

“Growing up by the sea has affected me,” Landrigan said, “I love the ocean, I love to swim, I love the buoyancy of water. I have been a passionate swimmer all my life.”

Landrigan is a member of the Society of Canadian Artists. The Society is a professional organization where membership is juried and acceptance is considered a significant professional accomplishment.

Houston artist Karen Landrigan Wins Top Prize at International Art Show!

December 30, 2018/ - Award winning artist Karen Landrigan announced today that her painting “Swimming” won Best of Show in the International Society of Acrylic Painters 3rd Annual All-Members Online Exhibition of 2018.

“I am floating on air ” said Landrigan “I have had to work very hard. I am so grateful.”

The ISAP competitions draw entries from around the world. Landrigan beat out 188 entries from nine countries including United States, Belgium, Canada, England, Hong Kong, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico, and Singapore. Landrigan is well known for her powerful and emotional acrylic paintings. Her work evokes a high level of emotional response.

The juror for the exhibition, Britt Freda, wrote “The ISAP 3rd Annual All-Members Online Exhibition of 2018 was replete with diverse, skillfully executed submissions from abstraction through realism. The Best of Show was awarded to Karen Landrigan for her piece, Swimming. When I am jurying the show I don’t know anything about the artists, but once the show opens and awards have been decided I was moved to learn more about Karen. In her artist statement Karen reveals adversity, past and present. Writing about the subject of one of her paintings “[s]he could be flying; she could be dying. And this is what my art as well as my existence is all about—whether to fly or die.” She concludes, “I choose to fly.” The conceptual complexity and vulnerability was palpable in her work before I know of her story. Karen’s work is evocative, visually alluring, filled with movement and honestly steeped in the stuff of life hard, gorgeous, challenging, invigorating and unifying.”

November 20, 2018/ - Multiple award winner and Houston based artist Karen Landrigan announced today that her painting titled “Persevering” has been chosen by juror to be included in the International Society of Acrylic Painters (ISAP) 9th Online exhibition. The ISAP competitions draw entries from around the world. This year entries included USA, Canada, Belgium, UK, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Israel, South Africa, Denmark, Mexico.

The juror, wildlife painter Jan Martin McGuire’s commented "I was really blown away by the entries for this show. What an incredible amount of talent–and such an inspiring amount of different styles and techniques using acrylic paint.”

Houston Artist Karen Landrigan Hits a Triple!

April 3, 2018/ -More than 200 hundred artists from around the world submitted 600 images to the Society of Canadian Artists, 2018 International Open Juried Exhibition. The maximum number any artist can individually submit is three pieces and to have even one of your paintings selected for exhibition is significant recognition. To have all three selected (and by a jury by the way), is huge. Rising Houston art star Karen Landrigan did just that. All three of her paintings were selected by the Society of Canadian Artists and her work will be included in the SCA’s highly respected online gallery.

December 13, 2017/ - Award winning artist Karen Landrigan announced today that her painting “Breathing” has been selected by the jurors for the National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society (NOAPS) Fall International Online Exhibition. “Breathing" is one of a series she calls “I have something to say…”.

Landrigan has had a spectacular rise in the art world. Beginning three years ago when she decided at the age of 53 to paint full time, Landrigan’s ability to capture emotion in a brush stroke has resulted in her receiving more than a dozen international awards and recognitions over the past few years.

Only 150 paintings from a worldwide total of 930 submissions were selected for the NOAPS Online Exhibition. Landrigan has continued to impress the public and art critics with her ability to connect on a unique emotional level.

“Breathing is my most personal piece of work,” said Landrigan, “It is the painting I’m most connected to. It is such an honor to be a part of the exhibit.”

November 2, 2017/ - Award winning Houston artist Karen Landrigan announced today that her painting titled “Flying” has been awarded the Ampersand Art Award. Landrigan’s painting was chosen by juror to be included in the International Society of Acrylic Painters (ISAP) 2nd Annual Online All-Member Exhibition.

“This is a wonderful recognition of my work and I am very grateful,” Landrigan said, “I am jumping for joy. I feel like I’m the one who is flying.” This year Landrigan has become a Signature Member of the International Society of Acrylic Painters (ISAP).

The ISAP competitions draw entries from around the world and many talented and professional artists submit their work. In the most recent competition only 75 entries in total were selected for inclusion. ‘Flying’ was chosen by juror to be included in the International Society of Acrylic Painters (ISAP) 2nd Annual Online All-Member Exhibition.

Mr John Salminen, AWS DF, NWS. was juror for this year’s selections. Mr. Salminen is a signature member of numerous art societies.

Landrigan has been the recipient of several art awards in the last year including the Third Prize Winner for International Artist magazine and selected in the top of three winners of The International Gallery of the Arts (IGOA), Painter’s Art Contest.

April 20, 2017/ - Houston has a star in the making. Karen Landrigan is a vibrant woman in her early fifties who decided after a life changing event to dedicate herself to painting. Houston artist Karen Landrigan designs Pathfinder Award to be presented to JUDGE JUDY

February 25, 2016/ - The Honorable Judith Sheindlin, Judge Judy to her 10 million viewers, is the recipient of the 2016 Texas Women Lawyers’ Pathfinder Award and will receive a sculpture designed, created and fabricated by Houston Artist Karen Landrigan. Landrigan known for her powerful and emotional acrylic paintings is also an accomplished metalsmith and has designed the Pathfinder award sculpture since 2013.

Each year, the TWL recognizes a Pathfinder—an individual who has championed the advancement of women in the law—and Judge Sheindlin is the 2016 honoree. Sheindlin is a testament to professionalism while presiding over daytime television’s highest rated program. ‘Judge Judy’ celebrates 20 years on air this season.

Newfoundland born Landrigan lives and creates her art in Houston, Texas. Landrigan is an internationally recognized artist and an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists.
